The Industrial Heritage Support Officer Project
The Museum manages and hosts the Industrial Heritage Support Officer Project in partnership with the Association for Independent Museums and the Association for Industrial Archaeology.
This England-wide project, which is funded by Historic England, was developed following concern that many publicly accessible industrial heritage sites were facing an uncertain future, and that smaller volunteer groups, in particular, needed better access to a source of focussed professional help beyond what was already available.
The project has been running since March 2012 and has supported and advised numerous groups and organisations from across the country through its clearing house service, training events, partnership working, and the development of regional industrial heritage support networks.
The Industrial Heritage Support Officer also acts as an advocate for the industrial heritage sector including at Historic England’s Industry and Infrastructure Network and HLF’s Industry, Maritime & Transport Group meetings, and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Industrial Heritage meetings.
