1940s Supper and Song evening at Blists Hill Victorian Town - Friday, 29th September
Step back in time, dress in your vintage best and come along to a nostalgic 1940s themed Supper and Song evening at Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge on Saturday, 29th September. Taking place in the atmospheric Forest Glen Pavilion, this special event is part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums 50th anniversary celebrations.
The first half of the live entertainment runs from 7pm until 7.45pm when there will be a break for dinner with the second half starting from around 9pm. The Museum’s resident duo will regale the crowd with a host of popular songs from the 1940s such as Bing Crosby’s You are my Sunshine and Swinging on a Star; Glen Miller’s Chattanooga Choo Choo and Benny Goodman’s A String of Pearls.
Reminiscent of dining in the 1940s, the two-course meal will include spam hash with carrots and potato mash for mains, followed by pear crumble and tea or coffee; there will also be a vegetarian option. A cash bar will be available all evening; doors open at 6.30pm and the event will finish at around 10pm.
Since its construction by the Pointon family in 1889, the Forest Glen Refreshment Pavilion has occupied a very special position in the local community. For nearly a century it served refreshments to walkers, cyclists and motorists who came in their droves to enjoy clean air and exercise in its original location at the base of Shropshire’s famous Wrekin hill. The pavilion was later moved, brick-by-brick to Blists Hill Victorian Town.
